*Jane Addams, 1860-1935, crusaded for social justice for the poor and underprivileged. She was a leader in the “settlement movement” in America that provided houses where those that were struggling could go to obtain food, shelter, basic education, as well as higher education. For her work, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1931.
